Privacy & Data Use

Last updated August 13, 2026

This notice explains what information BlueBoard collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers visitors who only browse, employers who publish listings, and job seekers who build a BlueFile profile.

The short version

  • We collect only what the Service needs: your account details, what you choose to publish, and basic usage analytics.
  • Employer listings and job postings are public by design. Your BlueFile is private unless you choose to share it.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not sell or rent job seeker profiles to recruiters.
  • If you use the AI writing assistant, the text you ask it to work on is sent to our AI provider to generate the suggestion.
  • You can ask us to correct or delete your data at any time by emailing [email protected].

1. Information you give us

Account information. Your name, email address and a password, which we store only as a salted hash — we never see or store your password in readable form.

Employer listing content. Company name, trade category, description, phone, email, website, address, photo and job postings. This content is published publicly on the Service and is indexable by search engines.

BlueFile profile content (job seekers). Whatever you choose to enter: name, age, city and state, contact details, headline and summary, education, certifications, skills, work experience and availability. Age is optional and used only to signal apprenticeship eligibility to you and to any employer you choose to share with.

Messages you send us. Support, takedown and deletion requests, and anything you include in them.

Please do not enter Social Security or other government identification numbers, financial account details, or medical information anywhere on the Service. Those fields do not exist and that data is not needed.

2. Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our servers record standard technical information when you visit: IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, referring page and timestamps. This is used to keep the Service running, diagnose errors and detect abuse.

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We also use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which pages and trade categories are visited, on what kind of device, and where visitors arrive from. Analytics cookies are set by Google and are subject to Google’s privacy policy. You can block them with your browser settings or a browser extension; the Service will still work.

3. Information from other sources

Our directory includes companies compiled from publicly available sources such as company websites and published apprenticeship and industry listings. If you use the website-import feature, we retrieve publicly available business information from the web address you provide in order to pre-fill a draft listing for your review. We do not buy personal contact lists.

If your company appears in the directory and you want the listing corrected, claimed or removed, email [email protected].

4. How we use information

  • To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
  • To publish the listings and job postings employers ask us to publish.
  • To store and display your BlueFile back to you, and to share it only where you direct.
  • To operate search, filtering and category pages.
  • To process payments for optional paid placement.
  • To generate AI drafting suggestions when you request them.
  • To send service messages such as account and billing notices.
  • To measure aggregate usage so we can improve the Service.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that has a legal effect on you, and we do not use it to score, rank or screen job seekers.

5. AI features and what happens to your text

The BlueFile includes an optional AI writing assistant. When you ask it for help, the specific profile text and prompt involved are transmitted to our AI provider, which generates a suggestion and returns it. This is triggered only by your explicit action — nothing is sent automatically in the background.

Suggestions are drafts. They can be wrong or generic, and you should review and edit them before saving. Do not paste sensitive information into the assistant. We do not use your BlueFile content to train AI models.

6. What is public and what is private

Public: employer listings, job postings and everything shown on a company page. Assume anything you publish there can be seen, copied and indexed by anyone.

Private by default: your BlueFile, your email address, and your account details. Your BlueFile is visible to employers only if you choose to make it visible or send it to them. If you do, that employer keeps its own copy under its own policies, which we do not control, so contact them directly to have it removed on their side.

7. Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only in these situations:

  • Service providers that run the Service on our behalf — hosting and database infrastructure, our payment processor, our analytics provider and our AI provider — each limited to what their function requires.
  • Employers you choose to share your BlueFile or application with.
  • Anyone, for content an employer publishes publicly.
  • Legal and safety disclosures where required by law, or to investigate fraud, abuse or threats to safety.
  • A successor if the Service is transferred to another operator, in which case this notice continues to apply to information already collected.

We do not share your email address with employers unless you contact them or ask us to.

8. Payment data

Paid placement is billed through a third-party payment processor. Your card number is entered on the processor’s own secure checkout and is never sent to or stored on our servers. We keep only the subscription and customer reference needed to know whether a listing is currently paid.

9. How long we keep information

Account and profile information is kept while your account is open. Published listings and postings are kept while they are published, and removed content may persist in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten. Billing records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account, your BlueFile and your listings, other than anything we must retain for legal or accounting reasons.

10. Your choices and rights

  • Access and correction. You can view and edit your listing and BlueFile any time from your account.
  • Deletion. Email [email protected] to have your account, BlueFile or listing deleted.
  • A copy of your data. Ask us and we will provide the information associated with your account.
  • Analytics opt-out. Block analytics cookies in your browser or use Google’s opt-out tools.
  • Marketing. We do not send marketing email without your consent, and any such email includes an unsubscribe link. Service and billing notices are not optional while your account is open.
  • State privacy rights. Texas and several other states give residents rights to know about, correct, delete and limit the sale or sharing of personal data. We do not sell or share personal data for targeted advertising. To exercise a right, email us; we will not discriminate against you for asking, and we may need to verify your identity first.

11. Young users

The Service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Accounts are for users 16 and older, and users under 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission. If you are a student, think carefully before publishing a phone number or home address in a profile you share with employers — a city, an email address and your school are usually enough. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

12. Security

Traffic to the Service is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored only as salted hashes, and access to the production database is restricted. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you suspect a problem with your account.

13. Where data is processed

The Service and its providers operate in the United States, and information is processed there. If you access the Service from elsewhere, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

14. Changes to this notice

If our data practices change, we will update this page and revise the “last updated” date. Where a change is material, we will make that clear on the Service.

15. Contact

Privacy questions, data requests and deletion requests: [email protected].
